2. Unless otherwise stated in the directions provided for the audition in question, the correct framing is horizontal, as shown below:

So avoid distracting from the face and above all framing yourself in ways that cover or cut out part of your face/head.
3. Unless otherwise requested in the directions provided for the audition, self-tape and slates must always be filmed horizontally.
4. Make sure your face is always perfectly illuminated and visible, castings must see your faces and the emotions you are experiencing while performing and this comes through your eyes. Avoid lights that are too bright and erase your face.
5. Always try to put on make-up, dress up and style yourself (make-up, hair, etc.) to give the idea of the character but without exaggerating. Example 1: Self-tape to be a doctor – no need to dress up as a doctor, just put on a blue or white shirt that brings you to the idea. Example 2: If the character is a fashion blogger, choose a hairstyle or a top that incorporates the fact of being fashionable and aware of trends.
6. Avoid clothes that have patterns, colors that don’t suit you or that distract attention from your face. Definitely avoid clothes with logos and writings on them.
6. Both audio and video must have clean quality. So you might want to invest in a professional microphone. Often, a lavalier mike is perfect for self-tapes.
7. The email/brief that provides directions for the audition should be read carefully in order to avoid sending incomplete or badly shot material that could cause your submission to be trashed without even being watched.
You must always present yourself professionally and be proactive in diligently following the indications and requests you receive from casting directors and productions. This kind of dedicated attention is one of the most important qualities you can adopt.
8. Your self-tape must always be named in a professional way: ActorName-CharacterName.mp4 This allows casting to easily find your submission on their devices so it’s an important rule to follow to make their jobs easier.
9. Care for your energy and develop a beautiful one so that you may give the best of yourself and convey beautiful emotions.

11. Turn in your self-tape as soon as possible, don’t wait for the deadline, it’s highly recommended to turn in your self-tape the same day you received the request if possible.
12. Remember that each audition is an opportunity to share your talent and that the casting directors are on your side, they hope you book the job because they are trying to find an ideal solution for the characters they have been assigned to cast. Each audition will therefore make you better, whether you book it or not, focus on the performance.
